See the look on this guy’s face? That’s how I feel about the gym. I hate going to the gym. Even before the pandemic, I wasn’t a fan of the gym.

new rules exercise

Like, spin class. All I hear are squeaking bikes that make me wince (it’s like nails on a chalkboard). Also not a fan of some ripped instructor screaming encouragement to move FASTER, and YEAH, YOU GOT THIS, GIRL!!!!!!

Aghhhhhh. I just want to say, stop yelling at me!!

Zumba classes feel like I’m back in high school with mean girls in perfect gym outfits with their “we belong and you don’t” attitudes.

So obviously, as you can see, the gym is NOT my thing.

But here’s what I absolutely love…

Ice skating. Power walks with my BFF. Hiking. Weight training at home.

I can do the above all day long and it’s super fun and effortless for me

Moral of the story – exercise isn’t about torturing yourself. It’s about having fun, being healthy and feeling good.

These are my five new rules about exercise:

Rule #1: Work out because you want to be stronger and feel healthier, NOT because you ate chocolate.

Rule #2: Exercise to feel good, not to look good.

Rule #3: You don’t have to break a sweat. If you’re moving, it counts!

Rule #4:  Don’t exercise now just so you can eat pasta (or drink wine or have dessert) later.

Rule #5: Find something you love, and keep doing it. It’ll feel like running, walking, dancing, weightlifting, playing tennis, biking, swimming, rollerblading, rollerskating… NOT like exercising.

When you change your mindset about exercise you’ll have a lot more fun AND be more fit.

Comment below on which rule jumps out to you the most! Which one will you implement ASAP, and why?
