Dr. Nina Savelle-Rocklin
Needs? Who Needs ‘Em?
What is the difference between “having needs” and “being needy?”
In this episode, Dr. Nina explains that if you're conflicted about your needs, you might feel weak for having them, or you might feel selfish.
How does this relate to overeating? If you can't get your needs met from people and relationships, you might turn to food as a substitute – using food for comfort, soothing, for fulfillment and other things that ideally you'd get from people.
By getting in touch with what you're missing in life, you can take steps to fill in the holes, instead of filling up with food. When you're satisfied in your relationships, you're less likely to turn to food for comfort, as a substitute for your needs, or to distract from your conflicts.
