My preoccupation with food began as a young child and continued through high school and into college.

Dieting. Restricting. Purging.

When it came to disordered eating behaviors, I did them all.

I was deeply worried about how others perceived me and constantly looked for approval from my parents, ballet instructors, gymnastics coaches, and teachers. In college, I started seeing a therapist… but I went for anxiety.

I told my therapist everything about myself – my relationships, my dreams, my hopes, and my fears.

I went once a week and by the time I left treatment, all my disordered eating problems were gone. And, I’d never talked about food. Not once.

My obsession with food and my body had absolutely nothing to do with food at all!

The problem was a harsh inner critic and perfectionism because I didn’t feel good enough. This was completely outside of my awareness. No wonder I couldn’t figure out why I struggled so much!

In time, I learned how to love myself, and with that love came healing. My eating disorders faded away, and they never returned.
