My preoccupation with food began as a young child and continued through high school and college.

When it came to disordered eating behaviors, I engaged in them all!

I was deeply worried about how others perceived me and constantly looked for approval from my parents, ballet instructors, gymnastics coaches, and teachers. In college, I started seeing a therapist for my anxiety. I told my therapist everything about myself – my relationships, my dreams, my hopes, and my fears.

I shared everything with my therapist but one thing:

I never told her about my messy relationship with food.

Eventually, I did disclose to my therapist how much I was struggling with food. Over time, with her help, I was able to get to the root of my constant anxiety in relation to food.

I realized that my obsession with food and my body had absolutely nothing to do with food!

I came to understand that the problem was a harsh inner critic. This was completely outside of my awareness. No wonder I couldn’t figure out why I struggled so much!

In time, I came to love myself, and with that love came healing. My eating disorders faded away, and they never returned.

I can’t overstate how amazing it feels to be totally confident in my own skin, find true pleasure in every meal, and be 100% liberated from dieting, counting calories, or doing a complete cost-benefit analysis of every bite I eat.
